The Calgary Energy Centre was Calpine's first investment in a power production facility outside the USA. The power plant is a 250 MW natural gas fuelled, combined cycle facility.
Construction was executed by the joint venture of PCL Industrial Constructors Inc. and TIC of Casper,
Wyoming. The work involved the erection of a Siemans Westinghouse 501 F class combustion turbine generator, a Fuji electric steam turbine generator, a Nooter Erikson heat recovery steam generator and as well the balance of plant mechanical and electric systems. The joint venture's scope of work also included the purchasing of the balance of plant equipment and engineering the balance of numerous plant systems.
