The new gas turbine cogeneration building is part of Syncrude's Southwest Quadrant Replacement (SWQR) expansion project. The cogeneration complex is located within the operational area of the existing Aurora mine site and is an addition to the existing cogeneration complex.
The cogeneration building facility includes a gas turbine generator (GTG- approx. 80MW) with a heat recovery hot water generator (HRHWG) connected to the turbine exhaust ducting. A boiler closed loop system, from the HRHWG, consists of recirculation pumps, expansion vessel and make up water system will heat process water through heat exchangers. This system is supported by miscellaneous piping, equipment and utilities.
